The Proprietor
The mind behind the madness
Hello, I'm Jeff
Welcome to my digital sanctuary. I'm a self-taught developer from Salmon, Idaho—a small town nestled in the mountains where the pace of life allows for deep thinking and creative exploration. This site is my corner of the internet, built with obsession and vanilla JavaScript.
My journey into technology wasn't traditional. No computer science degree, no bootcamp certificate. Just curiosity, persistence, and an ever-growing collection of browser tabs. I believe the best learning happens when you're building something you care about—and I care deeply about making technology more human.
The Philosophy
Some call it "vibe coding" when you use AI tools—I just call it development. I pay close attention to detail, learn the fundamentals, and understand what my code actually does. AI assistants like Claude and Cursor are powerful collaborators, but they don't replace the need to actually know your craft. They handle repetitive tasks so I can focus on architecture and intent.
But I'm not naive about AI's implications. I believe strongly in humane technology—the idea that AI should serve human flourishing, not corporate extraction. It should create jobs, not eliminate them. It should augment human capability, not replace human purpose.
AI should be a means of production for individuals, not a means of replacement by corporations.
Current Focus
Right now, I'm deep in the world of AI-assisted development, exploring how tools like Claude Code and Cursor can help self-taught developers punch above their weight. I'm also building The Panic Manual—a project to help people fight back against confusing financial documents using AI.
I spend my days curating resources for fellow learners (check out The Library), writing about humane AI, and building weird little projects that bring me joy.
Tech Stack
I believe in using the right tool for the job—and sometimes the right tool is the simplest one.
Location
Salmon, Idaho — Population ~3,000. Surrounded by wilderness, far from tech hubs, and I wouldn't have it any other way. The indie web doesn't care where you live, and neither should technology. Some of the best thinking happens in quiet places.
Get in Touch
The best way to reach me is through the Guestbook or drop me an email. I read every message and love hearing from fellow travelers on the indie web.
